AWARD-WINNING FILMMAKER JEHANE NOUJAIM AND TED CURATOR CHRIS ANDERSON LAUNCH "PANGEA DAY" AT MIPCOM 2007

"PANGEA DAY" RESONATING WITH PEOPLE WORLDWIDE WITH HELP FROM YOUTUBE AND GOOGLE MAP APPLICATION

Call for amateur and professional filmmakers globally to participate in this landmark event designed to inspire understanding across cultures and nations.

Cannes, France – Jehane Noujaim, award-winning documentary filmmaker of Control Room, along with TED (Technology, Entertainment and Design) Curator Chris Anderson are speaking to key decision makers in the TV, film, digital, and mobile industries at MIPCOM 2007 about Pangea Day - a landmark, one-day, global film event showcasing short films from around the world on May 10, 2008.

People are divided by borders, race, religion, and conflict, but most of all by misunderstanding and mistrust. Pangea Day plans to use the power of film to bring the world a little closer together. On May 10, 2008, Pangea Day venues in Cairo, Dharamsala, Jerusalem, Kigali, London, New York City, Ramallah and Rio de Janeiro will be linked to produce a program of powerful films, visionary speakers, and uplifting music. More importantly, the world will be watching as the program will be broadcast live through the Internet, television, digital cinemas, and mobile phones. "Movies alone can't change the world, but the people who watch them can," says Noujaim. "So I'm asking the world, ‘If you had the world's attention for five minutes, what story would you tell?'"

YouTube.com hosted the Pangea Day trailer on its global homepage, as well as all nine of its international homepages, to encourage filmmakers to submit videos. The response was overwhelming. The trailer has been viewed nearly 450,000 times and has been favorited over 2,000 times. It even ranks at #76 for Most Responded Video of All Time: http://www.youtube.com/pangeaday

Today, Pangea Day will also be unveiling a new Google map feature on their website (http://www.pangeaday.org) - a feature which is a true indicator of the global support for Pangea Day. Using a unique application of the Google map, Pangea Day's website will allow people interested in hosting Pangea Day screenings to plot their event on a world map and more importantly, connect with others who want to be involved. So far, 150 people have signed up to host screenings in 45 different countries on Pangea Day.

Celebrities and other influential people have are already committed to this project. Advisory Board members include: J.J. Abrams, Film and Television Producer (Lost, Mission Impossible 3, Alias) Lawrence Bender, Producer (Good Will Hunting, An Inconvenient Truth, Kill Bill) Cameron Diaz, Actress (There's Something About Mary, Vanilla Sky, Shrek) Goldie Hawn, Actress, Director and Producer (First Wives Club, Private Benjamin) Alexander Payne, Director and Screenwriter (Sideways, About Schmidt, Election) Meg Ryan, Actress (When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail) Jeff Skoll, CEO of Participant Productions and Former President of eBay Will.i.am, Founding Member of The Black Eyed Peas

The TED community is also rallying around the project, in particular with the support of Avenue A | Razorfish, an interactive agency who has generously donated its creative services to Pangea Day, which include the creation of the web site (www.pangeaday.org) and digital advertising and marketing services. TEDsters are also supporting the project financially, including a $1million pledge from TED Curator Chris Anderson.

"My foundation has pledged support for the project because of my conviction that all the toughest global issues - war, poverty, public health, global warming - have at their core a failure of moral imagination. If enough of us could abandon us/them thinking and really see people from all cultures as part of one connected whole, the world would find the political will to solve these problems," says Anderson. "Film has the power to inspire that moral imagination, and Pangea Day will be a transformative way of harnessing that power."
